AFC Investment Associate (m/f/d)

As a member of the AURELIUS’ Finance Company team you will assist your colleagues and actively engage in all stages of the financing process, working independently as well as showing strong collaboration skills with your co-workers and external professionals.

Key Responsibilities

Deal review and structuring

  • Initial assessment of opportunities including review of junior team member analysis and support in the structuring of transactions
  • Help identify and mitigate the key business, collateral, financial and credit risks
  • Prepare indicative proposals, term sheets and offer letters

Due diligence, credit analysis and underwriting

  • Review and evaluate all aspects of due diligence – challenge assumptions and conclude a commercial assessment
  • Review of of collateral due diligence – review asset performance, valuation, operational and security considerations to assess likely exit strategies
  • Assist in delivery of financial due diligence - cash flow modelling and sensitivity analysis to form an assessment of risk profile, structure covenants, controls and on-going monitoring
  • Consider other sector, legal and commercial factors that may impact on recoverability of collateral
  • Prepare credit papers including review of junior team member work, forming robust recommendations and highlighting key potential risks and mitigants
  • Assist in developing a recommendation regarding lending rationale, funding quantum, transaction structure and covenants


  • Support the deal team with documentation and negotiations including preparation of analysis supporting the transaction negotiations
  • Work closely with internal and external advisors (collateral, financial, legal, M&A, tax, pensions) and help manage the various workstreams
  • Assist with transaction management of stakeholders to completion and close out of workstreams including legal conditions precedent

Portfolio management

  • Monitor the performance of clients, identify and clearly communicate any actions to consider and discuss queries with client management directly
  • Support on-going portfolio management over the lifecycle to manage downside risk and ensure recoveries
  • Prepare portfolio update reports for presentation to senior management
  • Present papers, in a succinct format providing clear recommendations
  • Explore exit options and realisation strategies, working closely with external advisors and restructuring specialists
  • Assist with any other portfolio management operations as required


  • Support origination of debt financing opportunities
  • Join meetings with advisers and management teams to discuss new opportunities, product offering and explore potential solutions
  • Opportunity to develop own contact network and enhance introducer relationships
  • Research industry and companies, sourcing ideas to generate potential new business opportunities

Other duties

  • Assisting in the general marketing of Aurelius Finance Company
  • Assist in managing analysts and interns and support them in their development
  • Occasional international travel to support growth in territories outside UK and transactions with overseas operations
  • Any other reasonable duties as requested by senior team members


  • Qualified ACA/ACCA/CIMA/CFA or equivalent qualification with 1-2 years post qualification work experience in a transaction, lending or advisory role


  • Experienced user of PowerPoint and Excel
  • Experience of reviewing or preparing financial models
  • Ability to think laterally and problem solve
