Penang (Malysia) / Hildesheim (Germany) – July, 2012 – Last week YB DATO’ MUKHRIZ MAHATHIR, the Malaysian Deputy Minister for Trade and Industry, inaugurated the new Blaupunkt manufacturing plant in Penang, Malaysia. In addition to the expansion of production and distribution capacities, a large amount of newly-acquired equipment is available for the field of research and development. "Malaysia, located in the heart the booming Asia-Pacific region, is becoming ever more vital to us", says Blaupunkt CEO Dr. Lars Placke. "We are pleased that the AURELIUS Group, to which Blaupunkt has now belonged for over three years, feels exactly the same way, and that the necessary funds for the investment have been made available."
In the coming years, Blaupunkt is planning to invest a total of over 12 million Euros in the further expansion of activities in the Asia-Pacific region. With the opening of the new plant, the company is also further increasing its staff. In its on-site development department, Blaupunkt has created some 40 new positions and plans an additional expansion. Today a total of 60 employees are already working on new products in cooperation with the European development center in Schlitz near Fulda. "Blaupunkt embodies quality and innovation and is one of the leading brands in the field of car infotainment", says YB DATO’ MUKHRIZ MAHATHIR. "I am very pleased that Blaupunkt is further expanding its presence in Malaysia."
The new plant is part of Blaupunkt's "one-stop-center" strategy. From here the products are developed, manufactured and distributed for the entire Asia-Pacific region. "In the meantime, Penang has become far more to the Blaupunkt Group than a production and distribution site. Group-wide tasks such as quality management, purchasing organization and marketing are also carried out locally," according to Mr. Goh Kok Peow, Managing Director of Blaupunkt Malaysia.
Blaupunkt was originally formed as a company called “Ideal” in Berlin in 1923 and became famous by the mark of quality used internally for its headphones – the blue dot. This symbol of quality became the trademark and then the company name in 1938. Blaupunkt is a leading brand for car radios in many parts of the world and in Europe in particular. Blaupunkt stands for quality and innovation. The company also focuses increasingly on components for consumer electronics.
